Southern British Shorthair Cat Club |
|
The
Southern British Shorthair Cat Club is one of the
largest Breed Clubs representing the British
Shorthair Cat within the UK. Established in 1992,
the Club was formed to
represent Breeders and Enthusiasts of British Shorthair Cats andKittens throughout the
South of the United Kingdom. We are affiliated to the Governing
Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) and with
a membership totalling approximately 400, we play
an active part in representing the views of our members. |
|
The Southern British Shorthair Cat Club is a very progressive club and have been represented on the Internet since 1997. The Club was the first UK Cat Club to have a British Shorthair Kitten List published and updated frequently on the Internet which has become the definitive place to look for British Shorthair Kittens or British Shorthair Cats. A separate list has been introduced in 2005 for the benefit of enthusiasts of the Selkirk Rex Kittens and Selkirk Rex Cats. |
|
The 'Breed Profile' page describes the British Shorthair's physical characteristics and personality in words and pictures. You can also read the breeding policy followed by the club in our 'Genetics' page. |
|
There are a number of differing categories of Manx Cat. The Manx 'Breed Profile' Page will focus on the Shorthair Manx varieties which are probably of more relevance to our Members as it is the only type recognised by the GCCF. |
|
In June 2004 the GCCF Council granted preliminary recognition to the Selkirk Rex. The curly coated Selkirk Rex is a medium to large cat with heavy boning and cobby type, similar in shape to a British Shorthair. The first Cats arrived in the UK in 2002. The 'Breed Profile' Page of the website will attempt to cover the unique differences of this new breed. |
|
The
Club holds an annual show held under GCCF
rules. For more about past shows and for details of the
next show please visit the 'Annual
Show' page. |
Breeder Links
|
|
Many of the club's members have their own breed related web pages, links to which may be found in the 'Members Pages'. These are further split into either British Shorthair Breeders or Selkirk Rex Breeders and then further into areas where the are sufficient numbers. All our Breeders are expected to exceed the minimum standards of breeding specified by the GCCF. |
