As the club title implies, the Southern British Shorthair Cat Club specialises in all aspects of breeding, showing and ownership of the British Shorthair Cat, Kitten and Neuter according to the GCCF Standard Of Points and requirements.

The British Shorthair is a "four-square" sturdily built cat, closely resembling the domestic "moggie", except that:

  • it is generally larger;
  • its coat is really short with a "lively" feel to it;
  • the eye colour is determined by coat colour.

Coat colours, patterns and banding are boundless, and to date include the Lilac, Chocolate and Silver series, as well as Van, Bi-Colour and Tri-Colour patterns, and the Tipped series.

This club pioneers and encourages the correct mating of like-to-like type, to produce the officially acceptable British Shorthair right through the colour and pattern spectrum. Expert help and advice in achieving these aims is readily available through the Club Secretary.
