Southern British Shorthair Cat
Club Aims
As the club title implies, the Southern British Shorthair Cat Club specialises in all aspects of breeding, showing and ownership of the British Shorthair Cat, British Shorthair Kitten and British Shorthair Neuter according to the GCCF Standard Of Points and requirements. Less obvious are our activities with the closely related Manx and Selkirk Rex breeds where we follow the same policy. British ShorthairThe British Shorthair is a "four-square" sturdily built cat, closely resembling the domestic "moggie", except that:
Coat colours, patterns and banding are boundless, and to date include the Lilac, Chocolate and Silver series, as well as Van, Bi-Colour and Tri-Colour patterns, and the Tipped series. This club pioneers and encourages the correct mating of like-to-like type, to produce the officially acceptable British Shorthair right through the colour and pattern spectrum. Expert help and advice in achieving these aims is readily available through the Club Secretary. Selkirk RexThe curly coated Selkirk Rex is a medium to large cat with heavy boning and cobby type, similar in shape to a British Shorthair. They have a random, unstructured coat, thick and dense covering the entire body from the time they are born and arranged in loose individual curls giving an overall soft and plush feel. They occur in both short and long haired versions, and all colours are acceptable.Various rules need to be carefully followed when breeding Selkirk Rex kittens and the club is able to provide guidance through various members of the Committee who are experienced with this breed. |
